Invitation to public lecture on „Europe and its regions“ on 28 October 2019 in Hannover
Lectures by Minister Birgit Honé and Professor Simin Davoudi mark the public opening of this year’s ARL International Summer School in Hannover (registration required)
Regions play an important role in the architecture of the European Union. The EU’s multilevel governance system provides for close cooperation of regions among themselves and with actors on other levels, both national and international. This leads to questions such as: How does multilevel governance work in practice? What is the role of the Committee of the Regions in the institutional structure of the EU? And why is cohesion policy significant for Lower Saxony?
The public opening session of the ARL International Summer School 2019 on “Europe and its regions” addresses these questions, among others, on 28 October 2019, 5 pm, in the Old Town Hall in Hannover. We are delighted that the Minister of Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development, Birgit Honé, and the Director of the Global Urban Research Unit (GURU) at Newcastle University, Professor Simin Davoudi, will give public lectures on this occasion. The lectures will be in English; contributions by the audience will be translated by the organizers if necessary.
The invitation and registration form are available on the ARL website (https://www.arl-net.de/de/summerschool-2019). Please register by 20 October 2019.
The ARL International Summer School 2019 will take place on the following days (29-30 October 2019) in cooperation and with the financial support of the Ministry of Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development and the Research Center TRUST of the Leibniz University Hannover. Moreover, the FRU – Förderkreis für Raum- und Umweltforschung and the Christel and Klaus Wolf Foundation support the ARL’s activities for early career researchers. The international and interdisciplinary event, which takes place in English, brings together experts from science and practice as well as ten doctoral students.
